Here is a clear explanation of the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) and the “bypassnro” process for new Windows computer users:
What is OOBE?
OOBE (Out of Box Experience) is the setup process that appears when you first turn on a new Windows PC. It guides you through selecting language, region, keyboard, connecting to Wi-Fi, accepting license agreements, signing in or creating a Microsoft account, setting up privacy options.
What is “bypassnro”?
“bypassnro” is a command used during OOBE to skip the requirement to connect to the internet or sign in with a Microsoft account. This is especially useful if you want to create a local (offline) account instead of using a Microsoft account, which is often required on Windows 11 Home editions.
Step-by-Step: OOBE with bypassnro
Start OOBE
Turn on your new computer. The OOBE screens will begin, prompting you to choose your language, region, and keyboard layout.
Network Connection Screen
When you reach the screen asking you to connect to a network, do not connect to Wi-Fi or plug in an Ethernet cable.
Open Command Prompt
On the network connection screen, press Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt.
Enter the Bypass Command
In the Command Prompt window, type:
text
oobe\bypassnro
and press Enter.
System Restarts OOBE
The computer will reboot and return to the OOBE screens.
Skip Network Requirement
Now, you should see a new option to skip connecting to a network. Select “I don’t have internet” or a similar option.
Set Up Local Account
Continue with the setup. When prompted, choose to create an offline account (sometimes labeled as “Limited Experience”)1. Enter your preferred username and, if desired, a password.
Complete Setup
Finish the remaining OOBE steps, such as privacy settings and device personalization.
Summary
Using the oobe\bypassnro command during the initial setup allows you to bypass Microsoft’s requirement for an online account and internet connection, making it possible to set up your new Windows PC with a local account1. This process is especially helpful for users who prefer not to use a Microsoft account or do not have internet access during setup.
